Why Social Media Marketing is Still Trending in 2013

How Popular is Social Media in SA?


Social media Marketing has come to incorporate a wide variety of platforms on the Internet that are all about interacting socially. The most significant sites are Facebook and Twitter, but there’s also Google Plus, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Vine, YouTube, Vimeo and other smaller sites cropping up and gaining popularity.
A whopping 90% of South African Internet users are accessing social media platforms multiple times a day. As little as eight per cent of users access it only once a day and 24% of users are accessing it multiple times a week. But what does that say about social media marketing? Could these Internet users be just online for Google or work-related reasons? The numbers continue to lean towards social media’s favour, as only nine per cent of South African Internet users don’t use social media at all, leaving:
  • 63% to access social media daily
  • 14% to access social media multiple times a week
  • 14% to access social media at least once during the month
